TEELS - Tas Energy Efficiency Loan Scheme - Interest Free Loan for residences & small businesses

TEELS, or the Tasmanian Energy Efficiency Loan Scheme, is a joint initiative of the Tasmanian Government and Aurora Energy - in collaboration with Westpac - to assist our Tasmanian community with the purchase of energy efficient products. All products and services offered by Home Efficiency Group are eligible.

In a nutshell:

  1. TEELS is offered to Tasmanian's via a Westpac credit card, which is interest-free for 36 months when used for eligible & approved energy efficiency products. The fund is currently limited to $10,000, although higher purchases can be made in combination with your own funds.
  2. If you are a resident or small business in Tasmania, then you can access services from eligible businesses that have been operating in Tasmania for at least 18 months i.e. this ensures that (a) inexperienced companies or (b) dodgy fly-in and fly-out companies aren't used and (c) funding stays within the state.
  3. Multiple people in the house may be eligible for the interest-free credit card, and may apply for up to $10k of eligible products.

To begin the application process:

  1. You MUST already have a quotation for professionally-installed product/products (e.g. insulation + window condensation control system + solar energy system) from a Tasmanian-based retailer or service provider (e.g. Home Efficiency Group) that has been operating in Tasmania for at least 18 months. (Note: The quotation is allowed to be a remote estimation, which can be adjusted at a later time, potentially.)
IMPORTANT NOTE: You can only do ONE application with Westpac for eligible products, so you may have to have ALL of the quotations for ALL of the eligible products prior to applying.
  2. Click on the "GET STARTED" link on the TEELS page to register your interest with Westpac.
  3. Westpac will contact you to arrange an in-person meeting. Once again - you MUST have your quotation with you at the Westpac meeting as you only get one chance for the application.

For terms and conditions, as well as Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's), visit the TEELS information page.

As we have seen quite a few funding arrangements over the years, our suggestion is to GET IN QUICK!! 2000 people have pre-registered, which means that if everyone goes ahead with a $10k loan, the $10m limit will be over-subscribed by double.

NILS (No Interest Loan Scheme) - 50% subsidy to concession card holders

If you have a Pension Card or Health Care Card, then you may be eligible for a 50% subsidy on the installation of a new heat pump, Condensation Control System or home insulation, up to a combined loan + subsidy of $3000. Amounts over and above $3000 are payable directly to the supplier. If you are unable to afford to pay the balance, please seek assistance from NILS as in some circumstances they can expand the NILS coverage by an additional $600 based on financial hardship grounds.

This means that you can receive up to 50% subsidy ($1500), the remainder of the amount up to $3000 on a no interest / no fee / no charges loan, and any amount over and above $3000 is an out of pocket cost to the customer (you). Additionally, we have been advised to tell you to "get in quick" as subsidies are very limited, especially for insulation, condensation control systems and hot water systems, which have a smaller percentage of the funding allocated to them.

NILS stands for "No Interest Loan Scheme" - see http://www.nilstasmania.org.au. They are a funded body that provides fee-free, interest-free, deposit-free loans for a range of beneficial products, such as energy efficient heaters. They also administer funding that has been provided by Aurora Energy and the Tasmanian State Government under a program called Energy Saver Subsidies. The current round of funding was announced on June 22nd 2016, and provides for a 50% funding on:

  • Non-ducted reverse cycle air conditioners (heat pumps) – minimum 2.5 star energy efficiency (Heating) rating
  • Insulation (minimum ratings apply)
  • Air source heat pump and solar hot water systems
  • Condensation Control Systems

It is important to note that this scheme requires two quotes from suppliers for insulation, condensation control systems and/or insulation. If you prefer to use HEG rather than another supplier, you get the final say! We will always price match with a written quote, so simply give us a call. Even though we keep our pencil pretty sharp, we will match competitors' quotes (for equivalent functionality / brand, if applicable).

Remember - HEG has a PRICE MATCH GUARANTEE for equivalent products.

See https://www.nilstasmania.org.au/ for more details.

Heat Pump Hot Water

Heat Pump Hot Water
The efficient solution for Tasmanian household hot water, heat pump hot water cylinders and solar hot water cylinders receive solar rebates also. Siddons & Thermann brands for heat pump hot water and Apricus for solar hot water (evacuated tubes).

HEG Air Condensation Control System

HEG Air(tm) Condensation Control System
HEG Air (tm)IMPORTANT NOTE: These systems have been suspended from the subsidy until mid-January, at which time NILS will make a decision whether to include them in the subsidy scheme.

Stop persistent, troublesome window condensation (3 YEAR GUARANTEE), improve comfort levels and save energy! The HEG Air(tm) system uses air redistribution, ventilation & roof heat recovery functionality to delivery a professional, thermally-efficient result.

Ceiling or Underfloor Insulation

Ceiling Insulation
A no-brainer cost-effective investment for your home! Keep cooler in summer, warmer in winter. Call HEG if your insulation is less than 10cm high. Typically increases your overnight winter ambient temperature by 6 to 7 degrees, and reduces daytime summer temperatures by typically 5 degrees.

Underfloor Insulation
Do you have exposed floorboards or tiles? Stop the cold getting in your home by having sub-floor insulation professionally installed. Typically increases overnight ambient temperatures in winter by 3.5 degrees.

Heat Pumps

Heat Pumps (Reverse Cycle Air Conditioners)
HEG has a range of heat pump brands in a variety of sizes & styles to suit an individual room or an entire house. Heat Pumps are about 65% cheaper to run than radiant heaters for the same heat output, and have the benefit of cool air for summer.

Fujitsu "Free Money" Promotion

Fujitsu General is running a promotion whereby eligible purchasers of a Fujitsu heat pump can receive a pre-loaded credit card up to the value of $400 (although usually $200 for standard living-room heat pumps).

See www.fujitsugeneral.com.au/promotions for details.
