Home Efficiency Group is a Tasmanian company that specialises at statewide professional install of ceiling & underfloor insulation, ducted air circulation systems, condensation control systems and roof heat recovery systems. Common issues that are addressed include:

  • living room heaters that do not adequately warm bedrooms or other areas of the house
  • window condensation
  • mould, musty smells and dust mites
  • high power bills and
  • rooms that get too hot in summer
  • rooms that experience a lot of vehicle traffic noise.

Home Efficiency Group

Our primary product is an Air Circulation System with Roof Heat Recovery (aka "Free Heat") module... This system cycles air around the house similar to water moving around a bath when you run your hand around it. Air temperatures are balanced (no hot and cold patches, including the passageways!) and solar gain within sunny rooms and the roof cavity is distributed to other parts of the house. The use of heaters is minimised as you can rely on free heat from the roof space on bright days, and because the house is being ventilated your home will be fresher. Most people report a 15% reduction in the running costs of heat pumps and up to a 50% reduction in wood consumption. An optional Condensation Control module guarantees that troublesome condensation is eradicated.

"I didn't even get out of my
summer pyjamas in winter "

I'm a man that feels the cold. I wanted the system to take the chill off the bedrooms at the far end of the house and not need to put the panel heaters on, and it certainly allows me to do that. Our main winter electricity bill was $300 cheaper than the corresponding time last year, even though the tarriff had jumped up by 12%, so that is quite a substantial saving. I didn't even get out of my summer pyjamas in winter - I wear them all year round now - and I didn't put on two extra blankets like I normally do. I particularly like the "even heat" throughout the house...

- Peter, Deloraine, Tasmania (Installed Air Circulation System early 2011, installed ceiling insulation top-up early 2012)

We haven't used electric blankets since we got your ducting system in, the windows are as dry as anything, we haven't used half as much wood as we normally go through. Adam - it's the best thing I've ever invested in, and my only regret is that I wish I'd put it in years ago so we didn't have to put up with the cold bedrooms. It'll just about pay itself back in 12 months,  I reckon.

- Peter Dalco, Perth, Tasmania (installed Jan 2011, full name by persmission)

We would like to thank you for the great system and insulation you installed last year. Now that we have had a variety of ‘seasons and temperatures’ we are able to see just how impressive your Air Transfer system is. It is great for moving warm/hot air from sun-drenched rooms to cooler rooms during summer and currently now in autumn as well as to circulate the heated air that has risen from our wonderful gas heater. So Adam we are really impressed with your product and chuffed that we made the decision to have it installed.

Hey Brooke! I can’t tell you how happy we are with our system – we haven’t had any condensation at all!!!!!  We were thinking before due to our condensation and mould problem that we would sell the house in summer but have changed our minds now.  It is just amazing.  Thank you so very much for all your help.  It is such a weight lifted off my shoulders not having to wipe down the windows every day. The whole house is just so much warmer.

 - Janelle, Ulverstone

Since the installation of the ducted system there has been minimal condensation in my house.  On arrival home after being away for the day there isn’t that crisp cold feeling anymore, it is quite pleasant as the heat from the heat pump is distributed throughout the house via the 3 vents. I’m very satisfied with my investment.

When we contracted Home Efficiency Group to renew our ducting and ventilation system, it turned our 'older, miserable, cold and damp, in the winter home'  into an 'even temperature, warmer, dryer and much more pleasant home'.  Grandchildren used to walk in and ask for extra heating; others used to say 'it is a cold home.'  Now they ask for information on the ducting system!!  For the same electricity consumption we enjoy the warmth throughout the house and find the small areas of damp commonly found in old homes, are gone.  As pensioners we are conscious of and careful with electricity use and need to contain the costs.  With this system we feel, without increasing our costs, we are able to enjoy a much warmer, dryer home.

During the quote, costing and installation, we found all the service people professional and very easy to deal with.  We love the system and have no hesitation in recommending it to anyone needing to heat a home effectively while containing the costs of heating/electricity.

I am delighted to say that we are very happy with the system your team put into our  house... I thought your analysis of our situation was thorough and Aaron's installation team did a great job - no messing around, just straight into it after checking the outlet locations where where I wanted.

Now the system has been running for over a week, and it is great not to be wiping down wet windows anymore. The system keeps the house at a pleasant 18-20 degrees, so there are no sudden changes of temperature if we move from room to room. I wouldn't hesitate in recommending your system - indeed, when one of our acquaintances saw it, they were so impressed that they did contact you for an inspection. Great job - 5 out of 5 in all areas.

Ducted Air Circulation System

Does your heater keep your lounge room hot, but other rooms in your home are chilly?

A ducted air circulation system takes warm air from one room and distributes it to rooms that require heating. Not only do you warm rooms, but you also displace stale, moisture-laden air, the cause of window condensation! Look at these diagram for an illustration of how the system works:

Wasted heat through ceiling is the norm in most houses, unfortunately

With the HEG Air Circulation System, otherwise wasted heat is recycled to heat the rest of the house. This means you save on energy because you can switch off panel or oil heaters in bedrooms, and you don't need to have your primary heater set to "high" - the ducted air circulation system does all of the hard work! This often equates to a 30% to 50% saving on wood/power costs.

Inter-Room Air Transfer System

Works great with wood heaters! Increase ambient temperatures by up to 8 degrees and get rid of condensation

Transfer air to up to 8 rooms (4 rooms shown in this diagram as it is the most popular configuration):

Duct up to 6 rooms (4 rooms shown in this diagram)

Our customers indicate that they have huge savings on wood and electricity. This is because they no longer need to run the heaters on "high" in order to distribute heat. Low heat settings can now be selected and the ducting system does the rest!

Ducted Air Circulation System with Roof Heat Recovery Module & Optional Condensation Control Module
Minimize

Contact us to discuss solutions to eradicate window condensation, poor air quality, mould & musty smells in your home. The diagram, below, shows a combination system that circulates otherwise-wasted warm air from your heater as well as a ventilation module that accesses filtered, dry air from your roof space. By displacing humid, stale air with drier air from the roof space, the source of window condensation is reduced. By balancing heat throughout the house, the system reduces the "trigger" for condensation, which is air temperature fluctuations.

By eliminating persistent condensation in your home, you are improving the air quality and reducing the quantity of mould spores and dust mites, which means a much healthier environment for your family, especially for allergy and asthma sufferers.

Keep your roof space cool with Solar Whiz

The "Solar Whiz" is a solar-powered, high performance hot air extraction system for roofs. Conventional roof ventilators (often called Whirly Gigs) rely on the roof space heating up first before the hot updraught starts to spin the extraction mechanism. By this stage, it is too late - the hot air has already started to heat up the house.

With the Solar Whiz, it starts to extract air from the roof cavity as soon as sun shines on it. This means that the liveable parts of the house are not being affected by hot air. For homes that require ventilation for condensation-related issues, the solar-powered unit can be optionally linked to your electrical circuits to operate overnight.

♦ Cools your roof space before your home gets hot

♦ No running costs - solar powered!

♦ Reduces or eliminates air-conditioning costs

Winter in Tasmania brings an extra chore to many people: wiping the condensation from windows! Apart from streaky windows, condensation leads to mould on walls, musty smells  in rooms and clothing, and an increase in dust mites in bed linen. All of these lead to an unhealthy house environment, as well as damage to window sills, curtains, carpets and other household fabrics. If you are sensitive to mould spores and suffer from allergies, then these issues will affect you more.
